“Tock-tick, or “47 is 74”

Apologies to my followers and readers for not blogging much this weekend. Sorry, it has been a hectic weekend for me and I have run out of “Time” … Market Day, Saturday, and my Dome Poetry meeting on Sunday … I’ll have no breath left to blow out the candles!!

Over at Weekly Prompts, the Weekend Challenge is Back-to-Front. To visit their fabulous site, please click HERE

“Tock-tick”, or “47 is 74”

I am seventy-four today
And as I am growing older
I am hearing time ticking
Back-to-front
Sounding more like “tock-tick”
Instead of a steady “tick-tock”

Once upon a time
For every moment
There was a second
Now, in one moment
There are two seconds!
And the old hands
On my rusty sundial
Cannot find time’s
Elusive shadow

Alas, I have searched
Inside out and upside down
For the key to time’s
New age design
“A backless clock
Without any front”

Half Way

Half Way

Half of me
Is moving forward
The other half
Is lost
In the sky
Wondering why
We live
And then die

Half a cloud
My silent shroud
Slides sideways
And allows me
Half a moment
To feel more than proud
Among the crowd

Throwback Friday, Beyond Sunset

I found this poem that I first posted in February 2018. I hope you enjoy the re-run, and as is my way, I’ve made a few edits.

Beyond Sunset (Revised)

Gently, the dying moonlight awakens my dawn
And the baptizing sunrise waters my eyes
Drowning the silent hours of my shallow day
And dimming my hopes of playing in the hay

A hazy dusk shrouds the cemetery lawn
And the rituals of sunset beckon my evening plight
Flailing and falling upon sleepless night
And I lie prone under my weighted crown

Winter Sun (a Haiku)

Winter Sun (a Haiku)

Serendipitous
Winter sun, brightens the sky
And the setting moon

A Butterfly’s Heart

The Featured Image above is a photo of the Birthday Card that I received today from a dear friend who lives in Selangor (Malaysia), which is on the Equator.

A Butterfly’s Heart

Part I, Heart to Heart

An equatorial butterfly
Landed softly in my hand
Sat upon my sleeve
And looked at me inquiringly
“We need to have a heart-to-heart chat”
Then said
“I’m here to regenerate your wings.
Join me in the sky, and follow your dreams
before tomorrow’s dust, waves you goodbye”

Part II, Dreams of the Heart

I cannot walk the continents
Like the intrepid Marco Polo
But my feet have felt the sands of time
Pass between my toes

I have not sailed the high seas
Like the courageous Christopher Columbus
But my body has bathed
In an ocean full of kind hearts

I’m yet to fly in space
Like the brave Neil Armstrong
But I have reached for the stars
And touched my soul’s dreams

Mercurial Magpie (a Tanka/Tautogram)

A tautogram is a type of poem where every word in the poem starts with the same letter.

Mercurial Magpie (a Tanka/Tautogram)

Majestic magpie
Morally magniloquent
Magnanimous maid
Minstrelly melodious
Mankind’s mindful masterpiece
