Night Falls (a Haiku)
Daytime eyes do tire
Upon the land, night did fall
On the dreams of all

Nature’s Theatre (a Tanka)
The late winter sun
Peaks through a curtain of cloud
That flat silver screen
Becomes nature’s theatre
Where true rainbow films are fun

Jack’s Back
I woke at dawn
And there was Jack
Laying on my lawn
Good morning, Mr. Frost
I am at a loss
With the ground so white
And the air’s bitter bite
Why are called Jack?
The Jack’s I know from the outback
Are all warmhearted folks
And happy-go-lucky blokes
Not cold-blooded guys
Baptized by frozen skies
Are you a naughty and chilly skite?
Or a noble defender of the night
Jack! Today at first light
You gave my warm toes an icy fright

The Peace Dove Continues to Sing
To the moon I am calling
Please do not stop shining
Upon our dark failings
Where are we going?
We can be anything
Can we be everything?
The sun’s golden bowstring
The clouds rainbow swing
A penguin’s happy wing
An owl’s nightly hooting
He, who knows everything
And tells us nothing
While the peace dove continues to sing
Daily praise for Martin Luther King
Ivor Steven (c) July 2022
whether you’re a rock
or a rolling stone
under this thunder-dome
we all need to pause
to let life’s storms pass
dry off the gathering moss
relax upon the carnival grass
and enjoy life’s fairy floss

Give me shelter
From this daily war-zone
Throw me a blanket
Anything!
To protect my wilting petals
I am cold and lonely
I am tired and hungry
I am scared
Do not let me wither away
Help me
My brothers
The sunflowers
Are war torn too
Do not leave us
Please save us
Give me shelter
From this hard rain
Throw me your shadows
Anything!
To remove the thorns in my side
I am the last living rose
Do not forget me
Throw me an anchor
Anything!
To reground my ancient roots
Before I am blown away

Last week when I was visiting Eugenia’s fabulous site >> https://amanpan.com/2022/06/23/my-journey-thrives/
she introduced me to a Poetry Format, called a “Mariannet”, and I thought I would try to write one … The mariannet is an isosyllabic rhyming poem, consisting of one or more five-line stanzas (quintains) with one syllable in the first line, three in the second, nine in the third, six in the fourth, and eight in the fifth and final line. The first two lines rhyme with each other, and so does the third and fourth, but the fifth is nonrhyming and does not rhyme with any other lines. Thus its rhyme scheme can be expressed as aabbx for each individual quintain (with x representing the nonrhyming line). In Moore’s original formatting of the form, the third and fourth lines were indented five spaces and the fifth ten spaces. … Below is my fun Mariannet,

Faerie Runnels
Brave
The dark cave
…..Chase the faeries down the tunnel
…..Find their magic runnel
……….A hidden spring full of sparkle
Dare
Be aware
…..Sip from their bubbling fountain of youth
…..One nip of ancient truth
……….And your dreams will turn into dust

This poem is not really a poem, but a poem made from some of my quotes that I have occasionally posted here on my site, and the creating of this collection/poem was prompted by Derrick Knight’s, Feature Image Above >> and you may visit his site via this link >> https://derrickjknight.com/2022/06/24/too-close/
Do Not Quote Me?
“A poet following a poet, gives you poetry in motion”
“The tunnel is growing wider
The light is glowing brighter”
“He who worships from the tallest tree,
should be weary of the broken branches he trod on below”
“Stories emanate from the heart. Literature lives in every heartbeat “
“Not all literature is perfect, none of us are perfect”

New Born Lambs
Here, on the edge of suburbia
Wide bitumen rivers
Plough through barren fields
On nearby deserted hills
Giant man made towers pierce the clouds
The midday winter sun
Forgot to open her eyes
And failed to warm
The frost bitten land
Where new born lambs
Tremble and struggle to stand
Here, I silently search
For her guiding hand
While passionately waiting
For Mother Nature’s last command
