Moon Cuddles (a Tanka)

Moon Cuddles (a Tanka)

The pink fairy cloud

Edged closer to the soirée moon

The shy white moon blushed

When the soft cloud cuddled him

“Welcome to my atmosphere”

Throwback Friday, Imperfectness (a Tanka)

I recently wrote a poem titled “Ivor’s Utopia” and I thought today’s Throwback Friday poem “Imperfectness” would be a perfect accompaniment. “Imperfectness” is from December 2022.

Imperfectness (a Tanka)

My imperfectness

Is perfectly camouflaged

Underneath the trees

Where moon shadows protect me

From the world’s imperfections

The Sound of Time (a Tanka), and The Last Encore

“To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else” … Emily Dickinson

Rising moonlight hears the sound of the setting sunlight

The Sound of Time (a Tanka)

I am thinking why

“Is time, such a patient guy?”

I’m always writing

Anything that comes to mind

“Does time hear the sound of light?”

The Last Encore

I am standing on the diminishing foreshore

Staring at that missing ground floor

“Like there was a door”

Between here and the last encore

Watching Over Us (a Tanka)

Watching Over Us (a Tanka)

I watched you depart

I knew it was your last flight

Life’s one way ticket

And now it’s my turn to wait

For time to arrest my soul

Stalking the Wards (a Tanka)

A poem I wrote in response to Derrick Knight’s article about “Clearing Up After Storm Gerrit” >> https://derrickjknight.com/2024/01/03/clearing-up-after-storm-gerrit/

Please Note: All photos in my post today were originally taken by Derrick Knight, and I have ‘cropped’ the ones below to fit my article

Stalking the Wards (a Tanka)

After the wild storm

Nature wears her old matron’s

Reigning uniform

Staying to stalk the ward’s lawns

And nurse flora back to norm

The New Year is Here, or, Growing Up Too Early. (a Tanka)

The New Year is Here, or, Growing Up Too Early (a Tanka)

“What’s the right season”

The small summer mushroom asks

“Am I too early

Ouch, this midday sun is hot

I need autumn’s cooling clouds”

Vaka, English translation; day beforeevening beforeeve

My Jazzy Bougainvillea (a Tanka)

Jazzy, you are so

Curvaceously Flamboyant

Exposing your blooms

To anyone who walks by

Boldly seducing their eyes
