This poem is the second Ekphrastic piece I wrote from the Geelongs Writers Ekphrastic Workshop that I attended last week, and the attached photo below, is of Gale Jarmyn’s beautiful painting “Leaves in the Sunshine”, which inspired me to write this poem “Droplets of Joy”, and after chatting with her at the official opening of the Art Exhibition, (at which I recited the poem), she kindly allowed me to reproduce my photo of her lovely Painting, here on my Poetry Website.

Today I am presenting another poem that will be appearing in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound”. I wrote ‘Exposed’ in October 2020, and the Haiku will be the opening piece in the ‘Haiku’ section of Chapter 10 . Short Poems: Haiku, Senryu, Tanka, and Others.

The Weather’s Like a Boomerang
Saturday afternoon
We are stuck in the lounge room
Talking to the idiot-box
Outside there’s a winter monsoon
And the rain-god’s drops
Are as big as tablespoons
Full of crushed ice-blocks
Our day of play has gone
Tweedily tweet! The cuckoo sang
“Time to yawn
until tomorrow’s dawn
while waiting for tonight’s moon
to throw the next boomerang”

Frost covers the path
Coldness freezes the birdbath
