Thatβs What Friends Are For (Cadence Anthology, by Ivor Steven)
βHelp!β yelled Billy the Bee
Who was stuck, knee-deep
In the stormβs fallen debris
βIβll be there as quickly as
my body can shuffle alongβ
Said Charlie, the concerned caterpillar
βMy tiny toes are trapped
and I cannot fly freeβ Burbled Billy
Charlie sways and cleverly uses his snout
To nudge the broken branches aside
And in a jiffy
Billy was able to wriggle free
A relieved Billy
Blessedly buzzed over Charlie
βThank you kindly
for your gracious help
my dear friendβ
βThatβs what friends are forβ
Cheered Charlie the caterpillar

Thank you Sue β¦ Iβve written a few βlittle critters conversational pieces, but not many, and do like this one, because I wrote it specifically for the Anthology, and I the editor enjoyed my poem very much β¦ πππππ

Dear Ivor. I should have responded before this; please forgive the delay. I read your delightful poem to my 4 year old granddaughter Colette and she was in love with it immediately. One time is never enough and I must have read the adventures of Billy and Charlie at least six times. You definitely have a fan in Colette …. and in me! ππππππ©Άππ

Thank you for your wonderful reaction to my poem and I am thrilled that Colette (and you) enjoyed my metaphorical poem about “that’s what friends are for” … πππππ
