Those years have been and gone.
Since you’ve lived here, my lonely swan.
Sadly, I’ve existed through love again.
However, nothing like your passing’s pain.
And I’ve found I’ll never be the same.
Unveiled by life’s everyday falling rain.
Sometimes the heavy rains flood my very core.
Other-times the soft showers soothe my pores.
And as I once said.
Out of my wounded head.
“How many rivers of tears must we cry,
Before all the deepest wells run dry”.
Ivor Steven.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Thanks for reading, not all my writings are so melancholy, (maybe), but my words are straight from my heart totally unabridged.

It is probably good to write it down , let it go and leave beautiful sad poems. Ivor, I hope the pain soon passes and you can enjoy life again!

I don’t think a well of love ever dries. Or the well of tears, when it flows from love.

Those words echo a melody of sheer pain…but then what good is a poet if he cannot evoke such a beautiful poignancy? Great post sir 💞

They say artists need to feel sorrow in order to create beautiful things… this one clearly proofs it but I wish it wouldn’t be the case. Hope you’re okay, Ivor! 💜

But I have also say that you are the master in sad poetry. Even if it hurts while reading and I ´m worrying.

I came around today to catch up on some missed poems. This one was very melancholy, but your feelings came out in it very well. I guess, you never quite get over love, and sometimes the sadness comes back. Well done, Ivor.

Your beautiful photo is reminiscent of what images look like when tears blur our eyesight.

Thanks Rose, so very clever of you, that was the effect I was trying to capture. The pic is of a hail storm on my car windscreen(still having shit weather here), and then a bit of computer editing, and as you say that blurry eyed vision seem to work……..

The pain is still raw, no amount of water will wash it way. I feel this acutely, feel a thunderstorm bubbly brewing.

Yes, you’re right, and I feel my writings are clearer now, without being consumed by sadness and pain, more about portraying the memories, and hopefully of some help to readers who are experiencing such a loss, and to let them know they’re not alone in their troubles, and father time does heal the hurt, and we can move on, and retain our treasured memories, that are ours to keep and cherish….

Some of the loveliest poetry is that which grows from grief and loss, and writing it brings bittersweet memories and images.
I feel closer to my mother when I write a poem in her memory.

Grief is an overwhelming emotion, and can push our pens into the deepest corners of our mind, that under normal circumstances we would not find

That sounded poetic until I pictured a pen probing my grey matter, but I know what you mean. I’ve written some of my best poetry when I’ve been grieving one way or another.

Sorry, it’s Ivor’s warped sense of humour, and although some of poems are quite melancholy, I do manage to smile at myself, and think Ivor “are you some sort of sadist, throwing all these soulful words at your dear readers” hehehe ♡

Whoops, to get myself out my self pities self doubts. Another reason I write, maybe my humble words can be of some help to others out there, and I’m more than happy to chat and listen.

You create a perfect balance for those who have suffered a recent loss – you speak your pain, then you smile and say its OK, or you make a joke, thereby demonstrating that life goes on. I’m sure your words, and your warmth and empathy, help others
