Reading On Deck And Ashore

I’m reclining on poolside deck

reading Brendan Ryan’s book*

observing fellow passengers

strolling past, some bustle along,

others meander by,

gazing around and carefree

relaxed, soaking in tropical sunshine

they all smile and say Hi

Penelope and her mother Dianne

stop for a chat

we agree, a nice place to sit

meet friends made on this ship.

We’re in port, at Lifou Island

Tenders take us ashore

I’ve Robert Okaji’s book** in hand

to read while laying on pure white sand,

another glorious day on the beach

the air is warm and humid

a pleasant cool breeze

wisps across my brow

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. I thought it was only suppose to be a short trip, well that’s what I get for thinking
As the sun sinks slowly to the west
As Ivor ship passes by and I can only
Wish of the day my ship sits in port and awaits………….

  2. I love the way you can take a day’s passing and make poetry out of it. A giant boat is indeed a place to relax…a slip from reality. And I’m glad to hear you were promoting your poetry. You should!
