When Do They Play

For all the wrongfully incarcerated children around the world, what sort of humans have we become to allow such heart-wrenching home-wreaking, that will undoubtably cause permanent damage to the innocent children. “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treat its children.” – Nelson Mandela.

When Do They Play

Our emotions are boiling on high

Lowly governments are hiding like spies

When do the children play

Where do their Moms and Dads stay

Why should we have to pray

This is not our humane way

Promised tomorrows should be theirs today

Please, when do the children play

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. So completely terrible. 1500 foster children lost in US foster care and now this. Children are now missing from the detention centers as well. Children are worth a lot of money on the sex trade black market. I am beyond disgusted with our politicians.

  2. I agree that it’s terrible, but why no outcry on all the suffering children around the world that have suffered for years before the media latched onto this? Nobody seemed to care about them.

  3. Your poem is beautiful Ivor and I like your choice of music.
By necessity we all have detention centres but I’m not aware of anyone stealing children before. I wonder whose sick mind came up with that one? Punishing children by stealing them simply because their parents dared to seek a better life in another country has to be one of the worst political manoeuvres yet!

      1. Thank you Ivor, I’d like to see it. I am so behind this weekend, I have blogs to check and e-mails to read. I will read all of them before the day is out. I got myself tied up socially and every free moment was spent re-vamping the Home Page on Weekly prompts. Hope you like what you see.

  4. Lovely words, and music, to echo our concerns over the basic rights of all children to be children; unmolested, unconcerned with politics, unfettered by governments.
Walt has it totally right in that this is the latest in a long, long line of injustices to children all over the world. They do not have a voice to be heard. We do!
Let your voice be heard, alongside those already highlighting their own concerns.
