Flying High

Take-off and I’m soaring, in an iron dove

High in the cloudsΒ  heaven is above

Jetting through the stratosphere

Strapped inside her belly, feeling no fear

My rocking shoes have found the aisle

An armchair ride, flying in style

Red wine, to calm my nerves

Delicious food, increase the curves

Hours and hours of humming sounds

I hear time echoing on the rebound

My clock is ticking backwards

My life’s shadows are travelling forwards

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      1. The day was slow but busy, had to come back to the hotel for a rest at 4.00. Spent most of the day walking around Broadway, absolutely amazing !!

  1. So glad you arrived safe and sound. I thought about you. Love your poems. Yes You definitely travelled backwards, you were eleven hours in front of me and now you’re five hours behind!
Right now, I wish you a lovely evening but for me it’s bedtime. Goodnight Ivor. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you Sue my first day has been interesting, of very tired, but I managed to get see Broadway, and walk around the city, mind boggling πŸ˜β˜ΊοΈπŸ—½. I’ve had a late afternoon rest, nearly 7pm and I’ll go out for dinner. This is a great spot, Central Park out the front day and lovely eating precinct two blocks away. πŸ˜ŠπŸ—½

      1. It sounds so exciting. I’m thrilled that you are finally doing this.
It’s morning again for me 06:45 AM and I’m just about to start my day by catching up with my Reader over my first coffee. You on the other hand after such a long and tiring day will have ended your first day in New York. Hope your Friday is just as exciting as yesterday. 😊

  2. This is the best poem I have read about air travel! Glad you made it safe and sound. Will you be seeing the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building? The top of the Rock and Rockefeller center are also my favorites! What foods have you eaten?

      1. Yay! Sounds like you’re getting your bearings there. I love all the little restaurants that don’t look like much but serve such great food! A breakfast park picnic sounds lovely!
