Breathing New Oxygen

The misty dawn sky

Awakes to a human cry

And another day again sighs

Asking who’s left on this sty?

Where viruses thrive

Like wasps in a hive

Doing their aggressive jive

Dancing upon who’s left alive

Leaving a deadly sting

On every apron string

No matter who’s left waiting

Who’ll be left to do the colouring-in?

Who’ll be left to do the highland fling?

Who’ll be left to breathe the new oxygen?

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Very solemn and saddening. I’m getting some apocalyptic themes here, and it’s certainly not far off from today’s world. A solemn outlook of tragedy, is it not but a curse amid humanity?

    Brilliantly penned.

    1. Thank you Kim for your wonderful comment,.. I’ve had various different thoughts on my poem… I think that’s a good thing….. and I suppose in these sorts poems, I put forward the questions, and ask the readers think about what the answers for our future might be… 🤔🤔😉

    1. Thank you for reading Annette, yes it’s that’s sense of oppression, or extra gravity weighing us down… and the uncertainty of what our future will be …. many people l’ve spoken to, have these feelings…. 😊🤔😎

  2. I have been thinking similar things and asking myself similar questions.
You’ve expressed it so well, Ivor!
Of course, you know I want all of us here next year to rejoice in the positives that will come out of the struggles and loss. We must hold onto hope.

    1. Yes, I’ve lots hope…but the questions are ever present.. .. we can’t just hide our heads in the sand, and wish it’ll go away….there’s going to be lot a future planning, .. and governments are going to have to work together…..
Oh… I loved that song and video clip ‘Holding On”… it seem to suit the mood of my poem… ((hugs))
