The featured imaged above is photo I took today, because coincidently, I happen to be reading a book of Emily Dickinson’s poems … and thank you to my neice Kerri, (a graphic design artist) for cleverly enhancing the image, so as to make the words legible .. (my original photo was deplorable due to bright reflections from the midday sun)

Dear Emily
Your mystical words speak to me
About yesteryear
And beyond today
Where smiles and dimples
Live within bandaged moments
Of my soul
Your book describes the universe
From Celestial lists
To below natureโs dome
Where birds and butterflies
Live within unruffled moments
Of the sky
Your worldly wisdom fills my dreams
From babbling brooks
To mountainous oceans
Where imagination flows freely
And lives within loving moments
Of my heart

Thank you Carolyn ..and as soon as I saw the โsignโ, I knew I would write a poem about Emily .. I was worried my words would not be worthy enough for such a wonderful writer โฆ I am in awe of her magnificent bookโฆ I didnโt think my piece would express how I felt about her poetry โฆ in the middle of the afternoon I was going to give up โฆ then at midnight I thought my words were starting to get there .. at 1.00am my poem was finally done. .. Iโm still not sure, but your comments this morning made me smile and I my dimples are back .. ๐๐๐๐ค๐ถ

I think she’d like it if she came by it. A writer may not see the glamour of what they write as much as the reader does. Believe me, it’s a good read. ๐

With Christmas coming near, I wanted to wish YOU Ivor the happiest, most poetic Christmas possible. May you get poetry books for Christmas and may all of them set off a trigger, a cascade, of new ideas!

Ivor,
This is a fantastic tribute. I really love it. I think you may have a typo on this line?
“You book describes the universe.” Do you mean, your book describes the universe?
Wishing you all good things. You have a beautiful heart.

A beautiful tribute, Ivor! I bought her complete works last year, and keep dipping into it. She is master of the poetic conceit, a concept which really interests meโฆ and Merry Christmas to you, on another note! ๐

A gorgeous tribute to one of my favorite poets, Ivor! Glad you like her too! The quote is one I have always liked.
Emily Dickinson was a recluse who wrote her poems on scraps of paper, found tucked into the nooks and crannies of her house after she died. She was obviously not writing for fame. Her world was very small, but her heart and her vision were very large! One of her poems I especially like says, “I’m nobody. Who are you? Are you nobody too?…”
I am absolutely certain that your lovely poem would have delighted her!
