Welcome to wintry Geelong
One day, shimmering sunshine
The next, cold as the South Pole
But there he sits
At the front door
Waiting for his morning walk
Ok Frankie “Let’s brave it”
The wind is frigid
The misty rain is hard
And my eyes are crying
Icy droplets in the snow
But I am not complaining
As I think about the children
Sheltering in their damp cellars
Hiding from Putin’s hard rain
A deluge of bombs and bullets
Callously sent to kill and maim
** Please enjoy the Waterboys song below, “Mad as the Mist and Snow”, the words are directly taken from the W B Yeats poem of the same and musically adapted by Mike Scott
The Waterboys Lyrics ( by,W B Yeats)
“Mad As The Mist And Snow”
Bolt and bar the shutter for the foul winds blow
Our minds are at their best this night and I seem to know
That everything outside us is mad as the mist and snow
That everything outside us is mad as the mist and snow.
Horace there by Homer stands, Plato stands below
And here is Tully’s open page, how many years ago
Were you and I, lads, mad as the mist and snow?
Were you and I, lads, mad as the mist and snow?
You ask what makes me sigh, what makes me shudder so
I shudder and I sigh to think that even Cicero
And many minded Homer were mad as the mist and snow
That Cicero and Homer were mad as the mist and snow
That Cicero and Homer were mad as the mist and snow
…

Your words Ivor about the weather and Frank made me smile. Your in Australia are you not is your weather really that extreme?
Then your words about the Ukraine made me shiver … Then you added on of my favourite groups singing one of their great songs 💜💜

Thank you Willow for your thoughtful words .. I take poetic license with my exaggeration about the Australian weather ✍️ .. to try and get my point across about the suffering the Ukraine war is causing 🥲 … Mike Scott’s association with W B Yeats poetry comes to prominence in their magnificent album “An Appointment With Mr Yeats” , which I thoroughly recommend 🎶😊

About the Music , Mike Scott and Yeats, I totally concur. Yeats is a great inspiration to many an Irish group. As to the weather, I just wanted to make sure that Mother Nature had not slipped another surprise past me. I do understand your reasoning now and your poetic license. It all, the whole beautifully crafted post , makes perfect sense. 💜

A poem that reminds us that our mild sufferings are little compared to those who are suffering in the throes of war. Well done. The Blake poem and the song are very interesting.

Yay for Sir Frankie! Yes, no matter the weather our pups get us up and out for a few good walks. 😉 😀
Yes, we must be grateful for what we have/not complain AND we must not ever ever ever forget the children who are suffering.
Your comparisons in this poem are powerful and important, Ivor.
And you chose a great group and a perfect song to complete the vital message you share.
(((HUGS))) for you!
PATS and RUBS for Sir Frankie!

Thank you Carolyn for appreciating how I presented the message in my poem .. and I actually formed the words to my poem while walking Frankie yesterday morning .. and whoops .. it’s another bleak one this morning .. Frankie is up here on my bed .. cuddling in as close as he can get .. 🐶🤗🐶 woof, woof to Coop’s .. oh . If you can .. have a listen to the Waterboys LP “An Appointment With Mr Yeats” it’s magnificent 🎶🌏😊💕

The poetic license you take in comparing Australia to Ukraine is reasonable. But one should count up all the poetic license one takes and keep the grand total under reasonable limits, amIright? *grinning*

Yep … I’ve definitely overstepped my poetic license agreement many, many times over the years, but since I am a relatively unknown I didn’t think anyone would ever notice “grinning”

Ah Frankie, I hope it was a short walk. We are currently having a summer rain, at least you wouldn’t have been as cold in this rain.

A sensitive poem, Ivor: counting your blessings while remembering those less fortunate.

Woody refuses to leave his bed when it rains, but the moment someone says ‘Let’s go for a walk – he’s out of it like a shot. 🙂

Your poem started with a smile caused by a pet followed by a chuckle of the owner …. then closed with a shiver with problems of humanity. Well done, sir … and the music (for me) has a Bob Dylan feel.

Interesting contrast between being pelleted by raindrops and being pelleted by bombs. Perfect pairing with The Waterboys’ music, which Btw, I love their music. ❤️
