My Marathon’s Goal

The winter sun sets

Over my oldest day

I tick off another year

My sister reminds me

“Twenty years to go

to equal Dad’s Ninety-one”

“Is that achievable?”

I ask myself

“No harm in trying”

I tell myself

Carole’s Dad also reached Ninety-One

This is my marathon’s goal

“To walk around the moon

on my way to touching the stars”

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Birthday!
    First day
    Recollect
    Life!
    Same day
    Annually
    Look back
    Living!
    Great day
    This day
    My day
    Lucky day!
    One day
    Card day
    Gift day
    Your day!
Happy Birthday: I wanted to officially acknowledge; admittedly this poem may seem trite against the meaningfulness of the day, but it’s just meant as a quick, fun jot of celebration.
*To at least that many more, of course!

  2. Happy birthday to you, Ivor.
The important thing is to be healthy and happy. Doesn’t serve much purpose to make it to 91, unable to do a darn thing (or remember anything, for that matter!)

  3. I think I like this poem the best of yours so far. It’s a personal choice, obviously! Happy birthday. Every one is a triumph from now on. And by the way I’ve recently interviewed twelve nonagenarians who were all extremely pleased to be alive.

  4. Oh, I love this! Your poem, the photo, and Mr. Cohen! 🙂
You can do it, Ivor! We are cheering you on! You will conquer 91 and beyond! And in the meantime, one day at a time, you are making the most of each day AND positively touching the world with your poems! 🙂
(((HUGS))) from me! 🙂 Cooper-KISSES from Coops! 🐶
PS…My Dad lived to be 82. My Mom lived to 97. I had a great uncle who made it to 107! 😮

      1. Old Coops is feeling his age most days…but, at times, he can still run, jump, etc. like a pup! 😀
Coop says thanks to Frankie for the woofs! And he sends some woofs and licks to Frankie! 🙂

  5. We can only pray and hope, that we will age gracefully, and, the only thing we can do is to, keep our bodies healthy, by eating right, exercise regularly, while the rest, it’s, not, up to us, it’s all up to fate, how we will, age…and, go.
