Hearing Is Out of Sight
Do you peer through the blinds?
Did you peek and wonder?
About the empty street outside
Why is every morning like Sunday?
A solemn quietness amplified
Do you listen to the bells chime?
Did you hear your silent number?
Ring from the phone-box outside
Is the world in a slumber?
Waiting, forlornly mystified

Love this poem, Ivor! Perfectly portrays isolation.
It is usually very quiet here, to the point that I relished the sounds of the children next door screaming as they jumped on a trampoline!
My brother, a psychologist, told me today that he is seeing a lot of fallout from the pandemic…people suffering from isolation and depression. Silence can be lovely, but it can also be ominous!

Well written. My husband has hearing loss, the hearing aid helps him but some sounds are out of sight. He can hear the calls of only some birds. Congratulations.

I do, sometimes, feel like the world is in a slumber. There are many in it who I feel need to slumber!
