Magpies and Butterflies 


Our sad solar eye 

Is hiding behind a misty sky

Why do you cry? 


The golden age did not die 

Nor are we waving goodbye 

Despite the state of our pigsty 

Verbal bullshit deeper than knee-high 


One day soon, we will try 

To become nature’s ally 

Turn ourselves into the good guys 

With clip-on clean green bowties 

Then, save our magpies and butterflies

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    It’s very sad it’s taken so long for a lot of humans to even realize we must be nature’s allies. And some still have not. 😦
    A powerful poem, Ivor, with an important message! The image of magpies and butterflies (and all of creation) being saved brings joy-tears to my eyes! 🙂
