Afterglow

Put another log on the fire, while I travel to Tasmania with the two Philadelphia girls and three other Aussie cousins … Thursday 27th April – Monday 1st May

Afterglow

After a frenetic time

I feel like a burnt-out hollow log

My charred core is clinging

Onto nature’s dampened fringes

Of Autumn leaves and fallen branches

Where flora stealthily regenerates

Steadily, my diminished cavern

Is growing wider

And my ambient lantern

Is glowing brighter

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Lovely poem, Ivor! Your words paint a beautiful picture of nature’s regenerative power. I’m curious to know if your trip to Tasmania and time with your cousins inspired any of the imagery in this piece?

    1. The hollow log was a photo I took on my morning walk, and I was feeling washed out from such a hectic and unique time,,,,, and in my poem, I am being positive and energising myself for the Tasmanian part of my cousins trip …
