An Untravelled Highway

Hello newcomer

How long have you been there?

A stranger in a strange land

Standing alone on harsh ground

Living between a barbwire barrier

And an untraveled highway

Where do you come from?

My coloured one

Where are you going?

Within our vast island home

I wonder. Will you be accepted

By other pretentious squatters

With tolerance and compassion

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Congrats on CHW, Ivor! 🙂
Powerful, important ponderings and message (in photo, poem and song) that all countries need to pay attention to. Excellent, Ivor! 🙂
At some point in history most of us had ancestors who were refugees or immigrants.
I remember hearing stories about my maternal grandfather (who spoke two languages fluently…and could write in both languages) helping immigrants fill out paperwork, job applications, etc. He was very kind to them as he understood exactly how they felt being a stranger in a strange land.

    1. Yeah Carolyn …most of us all originate from foreign countries, and I don’t understand the how some people are so intolerant of having new foreigners living next door … I think Amanda Palmer’s very power song reflects to emotions of poem superbly … 😍🌏💕🤗

  2. I like your phrase ‘the untravelled highway’. Lately I’ve been fantasizing about jumping in my car and driving up to Lake Mungo. I’ve never been and probably won’t get there this year because of the cost of petrol but the fantasy is so strong I almost feel like I’m already there.
