I Started my WordPress Website in June 2017
Six weeks later, at the end of July 2017
My site had managed to receive 1,650 views
The world of blogging was new and difficult for me
And I was surprised at how many people
Were reading my humble little poems

Today, at the end of July six years later on
I am ecstatically proud to announce that my website
Has amassed a staggering “Quarter of a Million” Views
A hearty thank you to all of my friends, readers, and followers
I am not sure how to assess such an overwhelming statistic
But I suppose this means my “retirement” plans are on hold!

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. The key to your success, I believe, is that you connect with your readers. That makes us want to read more and communicate back and forth. Also, you read other blogger’s sites as well.
Congratulations on your blogging success, my friend!

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Derrick. The header pic’ was from our Geelong “Dome Poets” Anthology Book Lunch event held at the Box Office Cafe, and I’m reciting my piece “The Last Living Rose” …

      The Last Living Rose

      Give me shelter
      From this daily war-zone
      Throw me a blanket
      Anything!
      To protect my wilting petals

      I am cold and lonely
      I am tired and hungry
      I am scared
Do not let me wither away
      Help me

      My brothers
      The sunflowers
      Are war torn too
      Do not leave us
      Please save us

      Give me shelter
      From this hard rain
      Throw me your shadows
      Anything!
To remove the thorns in my side

I am the last living rose
      Do not forget me
      Throw me an anchor
      Anything!
      To reground my ancient roots
      Before I am blown away

  4. Congratulations, Ivor.
We began following each other shortly after your launch.
You’ve published over twice the amount I published and I’ve been blogging a year longer.

I never check my stats, but for some reason, WP feels I ought to know what they are, and frequently pops up to tell me! 😂

    1. Stats help me in part, to select my poems for my next books, or select a piece for a submission … I’ll look at how many views a certain poem has received … funny enough, the most popular ones are not my favourites … basically I’m a bad judge of my own writings … 😍

      1. Yes. I can see why that’s helpful for you.
I don’t publish anything other than a blog so I don’t need to know.

You made me curious, so I had a look.
I had one post recently that had 360 views, that’s ridiculous and unheard of for me, plus twice as many Likes from unknown people. Then I noticed that Gerry had a weird website attached to his name that wasn’t his, so I thought I’d take it up with WordPress just in case my site has been compromised in some way.

Perhaps I should read the post again to find out if any particular words triggered the response. 🙂

      2. Oh my goodness! I wonder what words triggered that? Sometimes you just know these people aren’t real don’t you? I might try and take note in the future just to find out which words attracts these spammers. 🙂

      3. When I’ve finished my cleaning, which is taking forever because I keep stopping to talk to you… 😂 I’ll sit down and contact them . 🙂
