An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Throwback Friday, Exposed (a Haiku)
Today I am presenting another poem that will be appearing in my new book “UntilEyes Hear Sound”. I wrote ‘Exposed’ in October 2020, and the Haiku will be the opening piece in the ‘Haiku’ section ofChapter 10 . Short Poems: Haiku, Senryu, Tanka, and Others.
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

We’ve had heat advisories all week here in sunny Florida, Ivor. Bring on the icicles. 😆🥶
I can, totally, feel that, chill of the, cold winter, from, reading your, words…and, the winters are, only going to get, colder by the years, summers, getting hotter, as that’s, how, global warming, works, and, we are, in more need of, energies, to keep ourselves, cool, in the summers, and warm through the, winters, and, this is a, vicious cycle that, we aelre, all, stuck in, indefinitely. And, there’s, no way, out, amd, alternative, green energies might work, but, they’re, higher priced, so. Nobody wants to pay a higher pprice, for what they can get, at a, cheaper, cost. That’s how, human nature, works…
Dear Ivor,
first of all I want to thank you for taking the time to read my new post. Nowadays I hardly ever do anything on WordPress because I do not have enough time. As always, I really like what you post. This haiku expresses a lifetime with just a few words. I wish I could feel the rain on my skin as you describe. In Catalonia, especially in Barcelona and its surrounding area, there is permanent drought, an environmental. political and a philosophically existential one, which makes me think of T.S.Eliot’s great poem “The Waste Land”, one of my favorites ever. I think there is always HOPE. I want to share this song by Céline Dion which also talks about the rain:
“Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears (drown my fears)
Let it shatter the walls for a new sun
A new day has come”
I think the song is mainly about LOVE and HOPE. It can have many interpretations. The video is good except for showing only heteronormative love relationships and human bodies. However, I love it:
Thank you Marta for your exquisite interpretation of my poem … and I’m afraid we have permanently damaged our environment and we have lost our way … Mother Nature is slowly turning against the ways humanity … 🌏🤗
Here is another song about rain that gives us OPTIMISM and COURAGE:
“Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turning red
Crying’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complaining
Because I’m free
Nothing’s worrying me”

Yes, however, we should never lose HOPE.

Ivor, that sounds like a very uncomfortable icecicle hinged on bare skin and blowing in the breeze! 🙂 All the best on the new book!
