Rubber Soles and a Timeworn Soul

I use only one pair of shoes and after 12 months and 2200 km later, I’ve worn off about 15 mm of rubber from the outside heal area …

Rubber Soles and a Timeworn Soul

My shoe’s rubber soles
Are worn out and almost gone
And the laces are threadbare
Like burnt-down candle wicks

I have traveled many hard miles
My old bones are weary
Worn out and almost gone

But my timeworn soul remains intact
While my journey’s dreams are alive and well

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Love your poem and metaphor but shoes need to be replace every 6
Months or so with the walking you do or your body will break down. Great poetry is not worth the price-:)
🩷😅🐶 just looking out for you-:)

    1. Thank you for your kind words Carolyn … yes, Cindy advised me I should get a new pair of shoes every 6 months, especially for the amount of walking I do 😊😍🌏🎶 … oh I love Ben Howard’s music 🎶 and this one suited my Haiku 👞🌏💕 “Time is Dancing” 😍🎶🐶🐾

  4. Seeing how worn the soles of our shoes are, we become, aware, of the, miles, the distances we’d, traveled, throughout, time’s, passage. But, you may need to, get a new pair, as, those shoes look like, they’re about to, fall, apart, and, wearing those, worn out shoes, may cause problems for your, feet, and, leg, and in turn, cause, problems, so, go get those shoes, replaced.
