Puddles and Ponds

Puddles and Ponds

Above the horizon’s sentinel tree line
Dark moody clouds
Were ominously rolling my way

Swiftly, fat wet drops
Started spattering my cap
And the growing round puddles
Begun pooling into ponds

I’m still miles from home
Regardless, on the remaining trek back
I’ll be good-naturedly splashing
And sloshing my way along the track

Today, I found this interesting song, “And Yet the World Turns” by, Automatic Shoes, the lyrics are below

And Yet the World Turns: Lyrics; Automatic Shoes. Matthew Joseph Hughes, Washington.

Never had a dark thought
Never felt a love rot
I just work the nine to five
That’s all I do, and I’m alive

And I never really dreamed of too much more

Never seen a sad face
Or thought much about the human race
I just punch out and punch in
And I’d do it all again

And I never really dreamed of too much more

And yet the world turns
Though your soul, it burns
You long to end these bitter wars
And get the rich to feed the poor

But I guess I never thought like that before

Never wanted to run away
From all the bills I have to pay
I do my best to please the man
Who signs my checks and ties my hands

And I guess I never thought of too much more

Never had to fight
Or stand up for my own rights
I guess I’m no protected class
And I’m fine with kissing ass

And I’m not real keen on doing too much more

And yet the world turns
Though your soul, it burns
You long to end these bitter wars
And get the rich to feed the poor

But I guess I never thought like that before
No I never really dreamed of too much more
No I never really dreamed of too much more
And I guess I never thought like that before

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Your rain poem is wonderful, Ivor! Walking in the rain…even in a HUGE rain…well, we might as well see the fun in it! Ha! 🙂 Keep splashing! 😀
    Beautiful photos! Interesting song!
I enjoy rain! We’ve been having some the past few days. 🙂
