Waiting For the Light (a Tanka)
Here in the darkness
Counting the white grains of sand
Dying in my hand
Haunted by that hollow sound
Of light crawling in the night
Ivor Steven (c) December 2024

A profound poem

beautiful tanka Ivor. love how sound and light are paired in your lines and give such an atmospheric feel to the overall reading experience. I felt I was there in your quiet reverie. Beautiful!

I find your poem to be profound…the images vivid and powerful…the emotions deep.
It always seems to me that time/light moves slower in the night/darkness. And things seem better/brighter after the sun rises and touches us with it’s smiley-warmth. 🙂
But I am so glad at night I have the moon to commune with…the moon is such a good companion…so comforting…so kind. 🙂
You chose the perfect photo and song to keep your poem company, Ivor. 🙂 A trio that touches my heart! 🙂
(((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️

Hello dear Carolyn, thank you for your thoughtful comments, I am very pleased my poem impressed you in so many beautiful ways … the photo is of the smoky evening/twilight sky and the red sun while huge bushfires have been raging through the Grampians mountain ranges, that have been burning for more than a week. And the amazing song is Sivert Hoyem’s newest release, and somehow my poem, photo, and song , seemed to intertwine superbly for me … 🌏🤗🎶😎🌗💕

Thank you, Derrick … the Tanka was written 4 months ago, but seemed very appropriate to be coupled with my photo of yesterday’s bushfire skyline and it’s smoky red sun …
