Rocks

Last week, Derrick posted an interesting article about “Recycling Rocks” which prompted the pebbles in my head to tumble around.
Please Note: Derrick Knight took the photos, and he kindly allowed me to reproduce them on my poetry site.

Rocks

Our buried rocks are not in the wrong
Isn’t that where they belong?

Some rocks like to live below the ground
Others lie exposed and love to be found

I have heard of people owning pet rocks
Do they put them to bed, in pyjamas and socks?

Some humans have never had their minds unlocked
They are an uninventive and uninteresting stock
That wear ear-muffs made from yesterday’s iceblocks

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Fabulous photos from Derrick! I enjoyed his post about rocks and recycling rocks! πŸ™‚
You two are a brilliant photos-n-poems team! πŸ™‚
I’ve been fascinated by rocks my whole life! We had a friend, when we were kids, who was a Rock Hound…he had the most amazing rock collection and amazing rocks…including geodes. πŸ™‚
Ivor, your poem is filled with wonderful images, rhyming-ness, powerful messages, and emotions!
I can see pet rocks in bed in PJ’s and socks! Rock on, rocks! πŸ™‚ Very Dr. Seuss-y! πŸ˜€
What you said about Human-Beans is so true.
