Throwback Friday, Innocent Millipedes

Today’s Throwback Friday poem was written in March 2022, and appears in my third book, “Until Eyes Hear Sound”, Chapter 1, Little Creatures and Birds, page 6

Innocent Millipedes

Please Mr Shootin’ Putin
Do not roll your tanks of destruction
Over the innocent Mr & Mrs Millipede
Millipedes were the earliest animals to breathe air
And make the move from water to land
They date back 428 million years
Now people of the world cannot hold back their tears

Did you know Mr Shootin’ Putin
That Millipedes are fairly timid critters
Docile decomposers that live in the leaf litter
Of forests all over the world!
They aren’t flashy or fast
And they follow the motto
“Slow and steady wins the race”
Millipedes are peaceful
They don’t bite
They can’t sting
And they don’t have pincers to fight back

Please Mr Shootin’ Putin
Do not roll your tanks of destruction
Over the innocence of creation

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you for wonderful words, Violet… I like to write in an almost child like simple way, the innocent and honest style seems creat more impact than a wordy expose’ … 📖😊🌏😍

  1. And, your words, just like the voices, of, the, anti-war protesters, continue to, fall on, deaf ears, because the world powers only care for, taking control of, the, areas next to their, borders, they do not, care about, the cries, the pains of, ordinary, citizens, the people’s lives don’t matter, and, the people are, only, means to the end, of, their, desires for, ultimate power, nothing more, and, it’s not like, the people will, arm themselves to, REVOLT, we had all been, enslaved too long by our, individual, governments to know, that those higher up, they don’t give a crap about, any of us, nobodies in their, “land”.

  2. A powerful, important, timely poem! It brings the tears. One of your bestest poems ever, Ivor!
Yes, sadly the innocent, and the innocence, in our world are not cherished and protected as they should be. 😦
I think it is very telling about leaders and countries by how they protect and help those who need protection and help. Sadly, most leaders and most countries have been failing for a long time. so so SO sad. 😦
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️

    1. Absolutely agree with the thoughtful quote, Nancy … yes! This is one of favourite poems… because it’s such a worldly statement about caring for the innocent victims of war, and I fascinated to learn all about the incredible ancient history of the Millipedes 💕😊😍🌏🐶📘📖
