Holding On (a Tanka)

Holding On (a Tanka)

Morning, day, and night
Your shadow follows the light
No matter the time
Whether you turn left or right
Your shadow always holds tight

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. I have always found shadows fascinating. As a child, I often chased and played with my shadow. Now, taking a late afternoon walk with Robert, I love the very tall shadows of us holding hands that precede us as we walk Eastward.

I imagine early humans were also fascinated by their shadows, their existence validated in much the same way as when they looked at their reflections in pools of water.

Thank you, Ivor, for the lovely photos and the delightful poem! πŸ’•πŸ˜ŽπŸ’•

  2. Wonderful photos! πŸ™‚
Glorious poem! So true, so beautiful, so reassuring! πŸ™‚ Our shadows can be such good companions. πŸ™‚ And it’s such fun to see others shadows, and animal shadows, and other things shadows. Often seem so artistic.
Oh, that song! His voice! Yes, we must keep being strong, keep holding on! πŸ™‚

PS…now I’m thinking of Peter Pan and his shadow. πŸ™‚
