All My Leaves Are Brown

All My Leaves Are Brown

Here I sway on barren ground
my leaves have turned brown
and are sullenly looking down,
my branches are going brittle
withering away little by little

I have heard passersby say
That tree is dying and
should be taken away”

Then I think to myself
Maybe they’ll make me into a bookshelf
for the Library at the Tree Hospital”

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Aw. 😦 ‘Tis so sad, to me, when any tree dies…but becoming a bookshelf would be such a wonderful tree-after-life. 🙂
There are days I feel like a tree in autumn.

    1. Yes, Eugi, all the other walkers were saddened too … we weren’t sure why or how it happened, the tree was relatively young, and all the other trees in the area were quite healthy … 🌳🌏🌝😍

  2. I used to work in horticulture, and I came to the view that trees knew when it was time to go, I have a small tree that is dying, sad and disappointing (as we age how long will a replacement take to form and fill the space?). I feel for the tree, I love the resolve in your lines.
