An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Van Gogh, A Moving Experience
Today, I accompanied my friend Barb to Melbourne’s wonderful Lume Gallery to see the spectacular exhibition of Vincent Van Gogh’s unique artistic creations. It was definitely an opportunity that I would not miss out on, and I hope my photo/story conveys our fantastic experience of being mesmerized by the colourful brilliance of Van Gogh’s paintings.
And I took many, many more photos, but by now, I am sure you understand how emotionally overwhelmed we were by Vincent’s ability to create such a volume of masterpieces, despite his sad and debilitating mental illness
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

I’ve always loved Van Gogh’s artwork. While I’ve never seen the moving experience, I had the privilege to see some of his paintings in California and Paris. I’ve also written two poems inspired by two of his paintings: Irises (which I saw in California) and Branches with Almond Blossom.
galleries such as this one makes experiencing the artwork more interactive, gives that depth of connection to all who go to the exhibitions to see the artwork, this is an amazing idea.
Ooh, and Oh, my gosh, YAY, and how wonderful, Ivor! 🙂 I’m so happy you got to experience this!!! 🙂
My youngest kiddo got to attend this event a few years ago and she sent photos and videos to me.
Mr. van Gogh has been my fave painter to study and to watch movies about and to read books about (since I was a teenager).
I stood before 2 of his paintings years ago in Philadelphia and I cried. I was so overcome with emotions…mainly great joy and honor to get that opportunity. 🙂
That Mr. McLean song/vid is one of my faves, too! 🙂
(((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️
PS…I have posters of 3 of his paintings on my office wall. So I see them every day. 🙂
Thank you for your lovely comments, Carolyn … the Wheat Fields with Crows, picture and associated was on display at the exhibition, oh, such a sad and moving story about the painting that was done not long before his death; and of course, I could not help but cry … his paintings are both vividly colourful and full of underlying emotion … yes, we found the exhibition to be a spectacular visual and sound presentation, and also a very moving experience … I took nearly a 100 photos, and all of his anecdotal words that went with associated digital visual paintings … haha, I might finish piecing it all together over the next 4 or 5 days … XXX ((HUGS)) …
It looks like a fabulous exhibition. I love Van Gogh’s work. I saw a video of the exhibition, but I missed out on seeing the real thing twice when it came here, despite both times being not far from home. Next time I will make a point of going to see it. 🙂
I took my parents a couple of years ago to see the interactive exhibition , so nice and different. Glad you put the flying fox up the front though, after we saw it in Amsterdam my husband gifted me a huge canvas reproduction that now hunts in our sitting room. I love bats , my favorite animals and for once that’s one not related to Halloween, even if is called a fox😉

Yes, and the train is the best way to go, Melbourne is a big city (3.5 million) and the Lume was a 15 minute walk from the station 🌏

I don’t think there is any other artists/painters in the world, quite like Van Gogh’s vivid and colourful masterpieces, Sue … 🌏😍
