An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Redefining My Lines
Redefining My Lines
I was a brittle piece of old oak After suffering my three strokes Which had left me in a dim coal mine Where I was a fish out of water Left hanging on the line To shudder and totter
Recovery was a gradual incline That felt like a slippery alpine But I kept on thinking Everything would be fine If I never stopped dreaming Of redefining myself, on cloud nine
In my adaptable mind I have thrown myself a new lifeline Via a bundle of woolly Canadian twine And it is now my time To enjoy a new bed of roses and wine
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Wonderful poem and thank you for sharing. I am so happy for you that you are continually upbeat and always striving forward.
That sounds absolutely lovely to me, dear Ivor. You are a joy, my friend, always putting a smile on my face. I admire your strength, positivity and good humor. Thanks for the friendship and the smiles. ๐ฅฐ๐๐ถ๐
Oh, thank you for all of your kind words and thoughts, Nancyโฆ itโs 5.00 am and 2โC โฆ not long before I have to get up and get myself moving and ready for the Market Day โฆ my car is still at garage getting fixed (no wheels until late Monday afternoon) so I have to catch the bus into town โฆ itโs a bit awkward with with my books, props, and accessories, but Iโll manage โฆ but no Frankie today, he has to stay home and guard the fort ๐ถ โฆ the weather will be fine and sunny for our winter solsticeโฆ Iโll report back later โฆ my sundial is still in the dark, hark, time does not wait on the idle โฆ Iโve things to do and places to go โฆ๐๐๐๐ถ๐๐ถ
Oh, that is a hassle! We easily forget those things that make our lives much easier until we suddenly don’t have them. And no Frankie to keep you company! But you are right; he will guard the fort as well as Theo and Friends! I do hope it’s warmed up a bit and you’re having a great Market Day. Cheers, dear Ivor! ๐ฅฐ๐ถ๐๐๐๐ถโ๏ธ๐๐
I’m eleven hours late with my reply … It has been a long day, firstly at the Market, then walking Frankie and posting my article/poem tonight … 11.30 pm and it’s nearly finished … the poem took ten rewrites, … I suppose tiredness interfered with my thought process … and I’m still to do my ‘Instagram’ post … the winter solstice day will be here before I get to bed … and I’ve done no blogging tonight … oh well, I’ll be off with the fairies soon … ๐๐๐๐๐๐ถ๐๐ต
Well, I’ve lost track of how many hours behind I am …. but who’s counting? Sometimes we can work through that tired feeling while other times we just crash. That was me last night working on my Song Lyric Sunday post. It’s 90ยบF right now …. the beginning of a sizzling week here in NY. Hope you’re rested up and feeling more like yourself today, dear Ivor. Say hello to Frankie, Theo and all your other flora and fauna friends. ๐ฅฐ๐๐ถ๐ฅต๐ถ๐ ๐ชด๐๐
Wow โฆ itโs ZERO here, and I hope my anti frost shelters are working โฆ Iโve slept through to 8.00 am, and Frankieโs sleeping on my feet โฆ we wonโt be going for our walkie until late morning ๐๐ค๐๐ถ๐ถ
Nothing like a warm doggie sleeping on your feet! Good to know you got some quality sleep, dear Ivor; everything looks better after a good rest. I hope your plants are doing well; they should be if they get a fair amount of sunshine. Fingers crossed this is not an omen for a bad winter for you. ๐ค๐ผ๐ฅฐ
