A Welcome Swallow in flight
This morning on my walkie with Frankie, I was lucky enough to photograph a ‘Welcome Swallow’ in flight. So, appropriately, today’s Throwback Friday poem is “Birds in Flight”, written in February 2023. The poem also appears in my book, ‘Until Eyes Hear Sound’ (Chapter 1, page 14)
Birds in Flight
Our spirit birds sleep all night
Then emanate at first light
To resume their dedicated flights
Our watchtower sentinels of Mother Earth
Who sacredly ascend at first light
Forever in flight, since natureโs worldly birth

At daybreak today I heard a flock of big birds beginning to leave and take what may have been left of our Alaska summer with them. I couldn’t see the birds, so I don’t know for sure- but I am willing to bet it was the geese. Made me think of you.

Frankie is such a patient walking partner, allowing you to stop to take photos of these gorgeous birds against an early morning sky. It’s been raining here with a chilly wind since yesterday …. a sampling of Hurricane Erin currently off the coast of North Carolina. The plucking guitar and opening chords of today’s gorgeous song reminded me of Dust In the Wind. It quickly morphed into the wondrous tones of Simon & Garfunkel. Delightful post. Sleep well, dear Ivor ๐ฅฐ๐ฆโโฌ๐๐ถ๐ถ๐๐

Let’s see if I can comment here now. I tried twice before so there should have been more than one comment in spam. So good to know you slept well; sleeping is one thing I do very well without even trying! You’re right about Hollow Coves; the music is calming. We need more of that. ๐ฅฐ

Thank you very much for your lovely words, Carolyn โฆ I was ecstatic with the photos, they were the first ones that Iโve captured of a Welcome Swallow in flight. They flittery and swift little birds. Their wing span is only 6โ but they are pretty little fellas. ๐๐๐ฆโโฌ๐๐๐ถ๐
