Recently, the theme of most of my poems has been nature. Today’s Throwback Friday poem, written in September 2021, was also a reflective poem about nature.
“After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality, and so on – I have found that none of these finally satisfy, or permanently wear – what remains? Nature remains.” ― Walt Whitman
Intertwined
Why are we deaf and blind?
How can we be so silently unkind?
Nature is not our kitchen to be redesigned
Mother Earth is our holy shrine
Our one and only protective rind
All we need is her love intertwined

Wonderful line about nature not being our kitchen. We are a disposable generation …. careless and often uncaring. Great verse and song, dear Ivor. 🥰

Thank you very much, Nancy, and the Waterboys song is a musical masterpiece, using William B Yeats great poem “The Song of Wandering Aenges” 📖📘🌏😍

I, too, liked the disposable kitchen line. And yet, that is how so many treat her.

Thank you for your words, Lois. And yes the line is ‘sadly’ an accurate description of our attitude toward Mother Earth 🌏

So powerful and important and ponderful, Ivor! I wish every person on planet Earth could read this poem! I wish humankind would realize how vital it is for us to care about nature!
And your photo, song choice, and Mr. Whitman quote are so fitting with your poem!
(((HUGS))) and please give Frankie some pats of love for me! ❤️❤️❤️

I feel that last line, “her love intertwined,” wraps the whole poem in quiet reverence 🌿
