Throwback Friday, A Fire That Burns in the Cold

Todayโ€™s Throwback Friday poem (originally written in July 2025) is drawn from my upcoming book, Time Hears No Sound. It appears in Chapter 5, Dreaming: A Poet’s Favourite Pastime

A Fire That Burns in the Cold

From behind the trees,
And out of the grasses,
We cannot stop the fire
-That burning desire-
From soaring higher,
Higher than the entire
Starry, starry choir.

So, best we inquire
To the Almighty Supplier:
โ€œWill there be a ceasefire
at the top of your golden spire?โ€

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      1. I opened the link last night to look at the various bollards; while all of them were not there, what I did see was something very special and delightful. Now I am hooked on bollards! I’m going to take a look online to see if perhaps I can find a small bollard for inside my house or perhaps one for outside. I may be going on a wild goose chase, but it will be fun just the same. Thank you for introducing me to bollards, dear Ivor. You are very fortunate to live in such a diverse city as Geelong! ๐Ÿฅฐ ๐Ÿ—ฟ ๐ŸŒ
