An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Throwback Friday, A Fire That Burns in the Cold
Todayโs Throwback Friday poem(originally written in July 2025) is drawn from my upcoming book,Time Hears No Sound. It appears in Chapter 5, Dreaming: A Poet’s Favourite Pastime
A Fire That Burns in the Cold
From behind the trees, And out of the grasses, We cannot stop the fire -That burning desire- From soaring higher, Higher than the entire Starry, starry choir.
So, best we inquire To the Almighty Supplier: โWill there be a ceasefire at the top of your golden spire?โ
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Beautiful! And back to a wonderful Beluga Lagoon video. Tell me about those statues. I’m sure they have a story. Frankie seems to have made a friend of one of them! ๐ ๐ถ๐
This is absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for sending me the link. When I have a little more time later today, I will read the description for each bollard. This is just one more fascinating piece of information about your lovely and fun hometown of Geelong. ๐ฅฐ ๐ ๐ฟ
I opened the link last night to look at the various bollards; while all of them were not there, what I did see was something very special and delightful. Now I am hooked on bollards! I’m going to take a look online to see if perhaps I can find a small bollard for inside my house or perhaps one for outside. I may be going on a wild goose chase, but it will be fun just the same. Thank you for introducing me to bollards, dear Ivor. You are very fortunate to live in such a diverse city as Geelong! ๐ฅฐ ๐ฟ ๐
Thank you for appreciating our beautiful community โBollardsโ , Nancy โฆtheyโre unique and special, and I taking visitors on a delightful walk around the bay to see them ๐๐
Ivor, this feels like a spark shooting up into cold night air. that โstarry, starry choirโ bit is great, and the last line has that classic Ivor wink to it! ๐
Thank you very much, Carolyn โฆ Iโve just finished my Friday evening market and heading home to see Frankie, and he hasnโt had dinner yet ๐๐๐ถ๐

Of course the blue Bollard represents the editor of the Geelong Advertiser Newspaper, and imagined him to be โthe king of the coldโ
