Today’s Throwback Friday poem (originally written in January 2025) is drawn from my upcoming book, Time Hears No Sound. It appears as the first poem in the Fantasy section of Chapter 9, Humour, Fantasy, and Fairyland: Timeless
A Blade of Light
Far beyond my darkest night
Clambering out of purgatory’s deepest void
I grasp onto a single blade of light
On the edge of my soulless asteroid
Who rescues me from Armageddon’s endless fight
Awaking in a pool of sweat, just after midnight
This meaningless nightmare gave me a hellish fright

You know what makes me wonder is how you find such perfect words to give just the right impression. I have been a wordsmith for the last 30 years, but it’s been a different sort of creation. Your poems are short and precise and evoke such wonderful emotions. Keep it going, Ivor … you have the magical touch.

I don’t dream as vividly as I used to … I think I take too many medications these days, Nancy 😍😊😎

Bad dreams are nightmares, pun intended. But really they do wake us up terrified or drenched. Hope you don’t have them often.

I used to have lots of them, but now my dreams are mostly happy nostalgic ones …

Eek! 😮 Those nightmares sound so scary! 😨 You’ve expressed it so well in your poem!
I hope nightmares are few and far between in the days, months, and years ahead.
Wishing you, and Frankie, sweet pleasant dreams tonight! 🙂

Thank you … Luckily, I have an uncanny ability to recall some of my dreams, and those fragments become wonderful inspirations for some of my poems …
