The Crescent Moon and the Dragonfly (a Tanka)

Late afternoon light, a crescent moon rising, and one bold dragonfly with something to say…

The Crescent Moon and the Dragonfly (a Tanka)

“Hello, Mister Moon –
why are you so small today?”

“You should not throw stones
Pipsqueak. You’re just an insect.
I can’t even see your wings.”

A little music to settle beneath the crescent moon…

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. I learned this week that dragonflies are voracious mosquito eaters. One dragonfly can eat up to 100 mosquitoes in one day. I don’t know how the mosquitoes are by you- but we get them terrible in the early summer months.

  2. So many conversations going on, around us, in nature every day! This is a good one! I love both the moon AND dragonflies! πŸ™‚
