Who Shines On Me?

The moon rises quietly, guiding my cross-eyed downside away from the world’s wide landslide.

Who Shines On Me?

Who is he, who is she,
who shines on me
so forlornly?

There, from the other side
of the sky’s great divide,
where eveningtide
cannot be denied.

Then the twilight moon guided
my cross-eyed downside
away from the world’s wide
and worsening landslide.

For the quiet places where the moon lifts us beyond what we think we see.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. A powerful poem, Ivor! So grateful for the moon! And grateful for your poems about the moon. I know you, too, appreciate and commune with the moon. The moon, the stars, and the night sky bring me peace, comfort, hope, strength (ETC)…I’ve always felt a kindred spirit there.
    Beautiful photos and music!

    1. Thank you for your wonderful encouragement, and heartwarming words, Carolyn … yes, it’s a lovely song by Lisa O’Neill, and the lyrics are even more special …
“Whilst, the Wild Workings of the Mind” – Lisa O’Neill
      mama, you called me petal
      you called me dandelion
      but me, like every daughter
i’m less of a girl with time
      grant me dreams accordingly
      wish me so refined
but me, like every woman, i
suffer the wild workings of my mind
      think to depths of wonder
      wind pulls seeds asunder
whisht, wild workings of my mind
sell me down to h+ll, mama
      petals, bones and all
love is the most beautiful reason to fall
      i remember him and me
      clutching to a boat
      onward to the island
      seek fifty thousand birds
      the puffins and thе gannets
      they danced around our knees
and hеavenly fog be the breath of god
      that teased the dandelion seeds
there’s mountains on the moon, love
      taller than what we see
he held my heart against his heart
      peace came over me
before he passed me on the stairs
      and fell into his sleep
his long sleep for all time
whisht, wild workings of my mind
they hunted me like buzzards would
and me, the mad march hare
      holding onto my true love
      and beating down the nightmare
how wrong it was, they found me
on the wrong side of the water
      drifting from your harness
      full spirit falling, mama
      fast now, into darkness
      dark the depths of wonder
whisht, wild workings of my mind
sell me down to h+ll, mama
      petals, bones and all
love is the most cruel loss, mama, you befall
      and so on sundays, mama
when you make your way to mass
let me be the chapel bell ringing in your heart
love is at its most still now
as i fall back to the earth
let me be the chapel bell ringing at my birth
