Here in the quiet between sun and trees, I steady myself before the day’s cold fire.





The World’s Cold Old Fire


Beyond the trees,
I see our warm old sun.
We do not have another one.

Above the trees,
I see our bold old moon.
We do not have another one.

Among the trees,
here I stand
on earth’s wartime cremated land.
We do not have another one.

Here I sway,
with hand on my heart —
I do not have another one.

I’m being immorally overwhelmed
by the world’s cold old fire.
We do not need another one.

      5. Exactly! It effects us more in our country as Iran is our neighbor and brother Islamic country- and on the side of America are the gulf countries and Saudi Arabia who are Islamic countries too. What a quagmire we are stuck in. And for no valid reason.

    1. Thank you for appreciating my emotional poem, Nancy … war is not game, and innocent people are being killed and maimed, the warring leaders should feel ashamed, and there never seem to be able to sign their name, in the blank corner of the world’s stained picture frame …

    Ivor, this poem is one of your best! Your word-images are powerful and vivid, your message-reminders are such truth, so wise!
