Throwback Friday, Bird on a Ladder

In keeping with this week’s β€˜Bird’ theme, today’s Throwback Friday poem (originally written in May 2023) is drawn from my third book, Until Eyes Hear Sound. It appears as a poem in Chapter 1: Little Creatures and the Birds

Bird on a Ladder

I am a blackbird on a circus ladder
Singing about how the world is feeling sadder
Or should I sing, β€œbecoming madder”

Here on the last rung, I stand
Below, I see a treeless land
Above, I hear a breathless sky
After the show, I untangle my necktie
And I ask you why
β€œDoes it matter, when I leap, what route do I fly?”

β€œLet the music spin the world’s madness into something we can still sing about

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. When you’re a bird, you see things from a, wider, perspective, and ehat we humans, can’t see, the, bigger, perspective, snd, maybe, that’s ehy, birds don’t engage in conflicts(unless maybe when it’s, mating season), compare to man…

  2. You’ve captured that bird’s dilemma perfectly in your heart-touching poem! (Yes, it matters. Sadly the goings-on in the world today make life difficult for birds, and everyone/everything else. 😦 )
    Fabulous photos! πŸ™‚
Very fitting song choice! (YAY for The Traveling Wilbury’s! πŸ™‚ )
In that song they sure captured a look at the world going in the wrong direction. 😦
