Dessert Flower (a Haiku)

After days of emotional highs, in the hush of this morning’s light, even a desert flower feels like a gentle breath.

Dessert Flower (a Haiku)

I watch the day age
Even the red cactus wilts
As the sun arcs high

A soft melody to carry the moment forward — a desert flower blooming in sound.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Such a beautiful theme…desert flower! Your photo, your words, your Haiku and your song choice! Lovely! 🙂
After some emotional-highs days, resting in the gentle and the quiet is a lovely place to breathe and be. 🙂

I’ve grown desert flowers and cacti. The cacti always remind me that although they look strong and tough on the outside, they can have the most beautiful, delicate, soft blooms. 🙂 Same with people…even those who look tough and sturdy or seem guarded…I remember they, too, have a soft-inside…a heart and a soul…and they need love, kindness, and care just like we all do. 🙂
