G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

We were caught in the rain during our morning walkies, which prompted me to pick “A Universe Above the Sky” for today’s Throwback Friday Poem …

A Universe Above the Sky

Walking in the morning rain
Wearing water-logged boots
I am dodging millipedes
And hopping over the puddles
Along with the footpath crickets

I see a universe above the sky
As the liquid clouds
Drop their weight
Upon my empty hands
Filling them with verses
Of memories and rhymes

Loneliness is an empty place
Nothingness is a blank space

I am not lost
Nor buried under the frost
I am just looking for the gloss
Beyond the dusty dross
And the encroaching moss

Tomorrow’s gap
It is not a trap
Zap!
There is a world map

Wild windy seas are wondrous lees
Like a wizard’s wok full of bees

Sunrise in MacArthur Park

Sunrise in MacArthur Park

We are in the middle of MacArthur Park
Where the morning sun
Irradiates the trees’ bark

Here, in the heartland
Dawn is more dazzling than normal
Glowing like a molten gold crucible

Shedding neon rays of sunshine
That stream through the tall pines
Like iridescent trumpet vines

Miners Rest and MacArthur Park Wetlands

Miners Rest is a semi-rural town with a very small township and commercial area. It.is a suburb north of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia on the north-western rural-urban fringe of the city, 11 kilometres northwest of the Central Business District. The population at the 2021 census was 3,829^.

MacArthur Park Wetlands Is a tranquil retreat for all residents who proudly call it home, Macarthur Park, with its breathtaking wetlands, provides a relaxing retreat to take in its beautiful award-winning scenery. A haven for native flora and families alike, residents can enjoy a nice picnic or barbeque and playground for the kids, or take a stroll, walk the dog or, for the more energetic, jog around the wetlands walking track.

While staying at my sister’s place in Miners Rest, me and Frankie thoroughly enjoy our morning walkies around the MacArthur Park Wetlands area.
