“Loose Gold Nooses” — a collage creation by Ivor, blending a silhouetted bird in flight with a golden sunrise, echoing the haiku’s quiet tension and beauty.
Loose Gold Nooses (a Senryu)
There are excuses
For being tied in nooses
Of thin gold feathers
Let the final song unwind the day’s knots, where the gold loosens, the nooses fall away, and the night opens its hands.

A quiet morning reply to Bart’s Fraiku, my worn lenses lifting me toward today’s blurry blue sky.

My Vision (a Senryu)
In front of my eyes
Beyond dust-covered lenses
I pause to see more
And the vision carried on beyond the frame.

A lone bird rising into the morning sky reminds us that every flight begins the same way — meeting the wind, opening our wings, and trusting the air to hold us.
Learning to Fly (a Senryu)
How to fly away
Face the wind and spread your wings
Leap and trust yourself
And sometimes, in the lift between fear and hope, we discover the wings we didn’t know we had.

In the soft drift between yesterday’s echo and tomorrow’s hush, I found myself pausing — watching a magpie unwind in the morning light, and hearing a song carry the same quiet truth. Some moments ask nothing of us but to breathe, to notice, to be held gently in the turning of time
Unwinding (a Senryu)
Living for today
Remembering yesterday
Minding tomorrow
And in this song’s wind‑worn footsteps, my little senryu finds its own way forward.

Calico Curtains
(a Senryu)
When the lights are dim
Behind life’s silent curtain
The show carries on
‘Behind the silent curtain, the world still trembles — Cohen answers where my haiku whispers.’

Today’s Throwback Friday poem (originally written in July 2023) is drawn from my upcoming book, Time Hears No Sound. It appears as the first poem in the Senryu section of Chapter 10, Time’s Short Poems: Haiku, Tanka, etc.
A small return to 2023, where shadows still had something to teach me.
Sadness (a Senryu)
Below the grayness
Naked emotions stumble
Between the shadows
For a soundtrack to this quiet ache, here’s Leonard Cohen’s Show Me the Place — a voice searching through the same shadows.”

Invisible Me (a Senryu)
How to be yourself?
When your life is within an
unreachable dream

I’m Like Dad (a Senryu)
Sometimes I am sad
But I am not mad or bad
My heart’s just like Dad’s

Time sees no graveyard
