Destination


My poem ‘Destination’ is a “Writing between the lines” exercise for the May gathering of our Dome Poets group here in Geelong. I chose Leonard Cohen’s poem, ‘The Goal’ (attached below my poem), for my attempt to write a poem between each of his lines!

The curtains are open
The front door is ajar
So, I can hear her sing
From her distant star

I do not own much
My soul is a gold mine
I haven’t lost my touch
My heart is kind

I share what I have
I have hope and love
Couldn’t stop the flood
Couldn’t hold her glove

I walk alone
I look content
Regrets are few
Despair ferments

I push on and on
I do not complain
I’m still alive
I’m numb to the pain

No one asks
No one knows
About finality
Under the snow

My smile of defeat

The Moon and a Cocoon





The Moon and a Cocoon

 
 
 
I see you staring down 

under your blue sky frown 

as I slowly arise  

from the mossy ground 

and shed my sleepy disguise 


Do not worry, Mr. Moon 

I have found your silver spoon 

and before the next monsoon 

I will eat my way out 

of this shady cocoon, 

cast aside any self-doubts 

and ignore all the high-noon lampoons

Throwback Friday, A Living Legend


Today’s Throwback Friday poem is from May 2021 and appears in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound”, Chapter 2, page 20.


A Living Legend

Mother Nature is my gardener
My living dance of life
I follow her guiding waltz
And let her conduct the lead

Where everything in her wonderland is real
Everything I touch, I can feel
And inside every blade of grass
Everything I see is a fairyland field

Every aroma from the magical forest
Gently breezes across my forehead
Every midnight moonbeam
Covers me in a silver dream
Every golden ray of sunshine
Lights up my dreams like a neon sign

I cannot control the sun
I cannot control the waves
But I can control the energy I receive

From every moment there is a second
Every second is a piece of time’s errand
Every errand is a part of life’s legend

Watching Birds Fly Into the Wind (a Double Tanka)

The birds hover high
And struggle against strong winds
With wings at full span
They gracefully glide and dive
Tacking into the airwaves


Irrepressible
They’re powerful for their size
Like turbocharged darts
Aerodynamically
Conceived to sail through all winds

My Women (Happy Mothers Day)

This has been a nostalgic week for me. Thursday was my mother’s birthday, and also Carole’s “funeral day” and now it is “Mothers Day”… Here is my tribute to those 2 magnificent women in my life…




My Women

After I had left the hem

Without women

I could not have survived my time

I would not have braved the climb

Ladies, you are my rhyme

My mothers of thyme

Helping me roll away the stone

Maintaining these old bones

Repairing the bridges, I have burnt

Reciting the messages, I have learnt

Cheering from the sidelines

Supporting my broken designs

Women of My Rhymes

Mothers for a lifetime

Nature’s Oceanic Symphony 

 
 
 
Beyond the dunes 

That is where I belong 

Lying on a sandy beach

Watching the ocean’s waves  

Lyrically draw rippled contours 

Upon the welcoming shoreline 


And where I refreshingly  

Listen to the rolling sound  

Of Nature’s Oceanic Symphony  

Rhythmically thrum, over and over

I Need You




I am proudly striding

Beside my mother

Below her handsome shoulder

And close to her cuddly hip


I rub against her warmth

So, I can hear her loving heartbeat

And feel her rhythmical breath

Calmly caress my soft ears

Here, I have no fear while she is near
