The Weather’s Like a Boomerang

Over at “Weekly Prompts”, the Weekend Challenge is the word: Bucolic, please visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here … Below is my ‘Rural Weather’ response to the Prompt

The Weather’s Like a Boomerang

Saturday afternoon

We are stuck in the lounge room

Talking to the idiot-box

Outside there’s a winter monsoon

And the rain-god’s drops

Are as big as tablespoons

Full of crushed ice-blocks

Our day of play has gone

Tweedily tweet! The cuckoo sang

“Time to yawn

until tomorrow’s dawn

while waiting for tonight’s moon

to throw the next boomerang”

The Hands of Time

The Weekend Challenge on Weekly Prompts is the word: Property. You can visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here … My poem below, is about the elusive “Properties” of Time

The Hands of Time

Time and time again

I do not have enough time

I cannot catch time

I cannot see time

And sometimes

I have even lost time

No matter the time

I have no time

To write a rhyme

Clean sheets wait for new lines

Empty pages are in mime

I cannot remember the time

When my heart’s rhythm

Last ticked in time

With the spare time

Inside my mind

Clouds Are Down

Today I am reposting a poem from July 2020. The day has become very wet and “cool” this afternoon, and coincidently the Wednesday Challenge from Weekly Prompts is the wordCOOL. Please go and visit their fabulous site by clicking on >>
Here

Clouds Are Down

Coldness hovers in foggy grey air

The sun’s dirty eye-wear

Icy winter ground

A crunchy grass sound

Blue skies await, clouds are down

There’s hope above, in her golden crown

Hafsol (Sun of the sea), Rigur Ros, lyrics in English.

Sun of the sea

Behind a cloudburst,
the sun awakens from hibernation
Cools off with the cold drops of rain
Plays with the hot flames of fire
Creates a rainbow talking on the arm,
talking on Behind a cloudburst,
the sun awakens from hibernation
Cools off with the cold drops of rain
Playing with my name I would like to look for
Creates a rainbow

Reflection

This weekend on Weekly Prompts the monthly Colour Challenge for April is: Tricolour . Please go and visit their fabulous site by clicking on > Here
My “tricolour poem” below is about, rainnbows, orbits, and cosmic snow

A special thank you to Mark Ryan for inspiring my imagination, visit his incredible site via this link >> https://havocandconsequence.wordpress.com/2023/03/31/decaying-orbit

Reflection

Like a rainbow

Orbits come and go

Each brilliant arch

Travels a mirrored path

Is our life, a rainbow’s

Reflection upon cosmic snow

The World’s Crimes (a Tanka)

At Weekly Prompts the Wednesday Challenge is the word: BELONGING. Please go over and visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here. Below is my poem about how we all belong to this World, and we all want peace …

The World’s Crimes (a Tanka)

One line at a time

We shall persistently climb

Above the world’s crimes

That bears no reason or rhyme

For making the peace bells chime

Herculean Moon

The Wednesday challenge on Weekly Prompts is; HERCULEAN. Please go over and visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here , and below is my response to the prompt.

Herculean Moon

On a motionless silent night

There.

From beyond the dark evening clouds

The Herculean moon stoically glowed

Upon the forest’s swaying silhouettes

Stealthily shedding enough silvery light

To illuminate the ancient gatehouse

There.

From below the mystical pathway home

Drumsticks

All Images: were from my visit to the ‘Writers Retreat Workshop’, held at Drydale’s Old Courthouse & Museum on Friday
The Weekend Challenge from Weekly Prompts is the word; RANDOM. Please go over and visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> HERE . The poem ‘Drumsticks’ is my response to the prompt Random

Drumsticks

Thump, thump, thump

The muffled beat of drums

Hollow depressing throbs

Hauntingly echo

From behind the heavy door

Of the jurors’ chambers

What will their verdict be?

The courthouse gallery is full

Humming in anticipation

Has the Drummer Boy’s case

Been handled fairly?

The alleged fatal weapons

The Boy’s drumsticks

Are yet to be found!

Old Crow and the Moon (a Haiku)

The white moon hangs low

In the blue afternoon sky

Old crow stands alone

One More Spoonful

On Weekly Prompts this weekend, the challenge word Glimmer. Please go over and visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here And is a poem I wrote back in January, that I thought to be suitable piece for the prompt …

Hello dear readers, I had a difficult time writing this poem, as my thoughts were jumbled and confused, but eventually after toiling away, I think the piece gradually developed into something resembling my initial dreamy thoughts … And then I could not make up my mind on the title, between “A Shining” or “One More Spoonful” ..

One More Spoonful

I was reading my never ending story

about crossing the rivers of time

and climbing a mountain of dreams

then along the crest of a misty waterfall

a mysterious rainbow appeared at dawn

as a shimmering glimmer of hope

and above my unreachable horizon

there was a shining

tempting me to turn around

and resume paddling upstream

to where I could savour

a spoonful of life’s cream
