The Morning After

The Morning After

Tracking south

Stepping from one quiet cloud

Onto a whispering cloud

Following powdered footprints

Without displacing a feather

Without cracking the sky’s

Hypnotic blue eggshell

And daydreaming of the south

Without you

Neon Blue

Neon Blue (a Haiku)

Our sky’s neon blue

The bright side of winter blue

Warming our toes too

Why Do We Write? (a Quote)

My “Quote” was inspired by Arlene’s lovely article ‘On Writing’
>> https://arlene1956.wordpress.com/2023/08/20/on-writing/

Why Do We Write? (a Quote)

“The world caresses our eyes

every day until we die.

We write to arouse idle mind’s

and soothe hearts with our soulful finds” … Ivor Steven

WHERE HAVE THE FAERIES GONE?

BY IVOR STEVEN/

AUGUST 21, 2023/

Ivor Steven / Coffee House Writers

    Deep in the enchanted forest
    Under mossy rocks and water-reeds
    I found an iron-bar door
Lying over a sinkhole in the creek bed

    I wondered and yelled out
    Eerily, a gentle voice replied
“Do not worry, we are sheltering here”
“Why are you hiding?” I inquired
    “We are waiting for humanity
to stop the carnage on our planet”

Then, peering up from lower in the chasm
I witnessed that the small luminous eyes
    Of Earth’s guardian faeries
Were en masse, joyless, and crying

    Icicles stuck on bare skin

    Hinged by winter wind

    These Days, Haunt Me

Levering my leg like an old toad

    I stumble and bumble

    Along my yellow-brick road

But I will not crash or crumble

    Floundering, unbalanced, and unsteady

From a thumping migraine in my head

    Piercing my eyeballs

    With unfeathered darts

    That continually find their mark

    My neurosurgeon calls them

    “Post-stroke fatigue moments”

    Four years on!

    They haunt me like “Jaws”

With the go button stuck on pause

But fortunately, after two days rest

I am back to my normal alien best

    Burning the Fears

Over at Weekly Prompts, the word: Backwards is the Weekend Challenge. Please visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here. – Below, I followed Sue’s suggestion and went “Backwards” through my files and found this intriguing piece from September 2017
Featured Image: Artwork, by Kerri Costello, Graphic Design Artist, my amazing niece/second cousin, who lives in Philadelphia, and I think this was the first design that she created for my poetry website.

    Burning the Fears

I’m frightened, and too scared to show my face

    And knowingly, I’m arriving late

The ghouls are spying from the hill

And lower fools are poisoning her will

    Underneath her, a wicker complete

Above, she’s suspended from a stake

The bonfires started, against the rules

And the crowds rejoicing, as the fire drools

Waiting agog, for her garments to ignite

The flames are crackling below her tonight

And the mob’s listening for her ungodly screams

But there’s not a whimper! Within she beams

And secretly, I see her black cat’s drowning tears

Are extinguishing all her burning fears
