The Sound of Time (a Tanka), and The Last Encore

“To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else” … Emily Dickinson

Rising moonlight hears the sound of the setting sunlight

The Sound of Time (a Tanka)

I am thinking why

“Is time, such a patient guy?”

I’m always writing

Anything that comes to mind

“Does time hear the sound of light?”

The Last Encore

I am standing on the diminishing foreshore

Staring at that missing ground floor

โ€œLike there was a doorโ€

Between here and the last encore

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Oh, this is so wonderful and important, Ivor…your photos, Emily Dickinson’s quote, your poem and Harry’s song!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚
We’ve had rain the past few days/nights…so the moon and sun have been blanketed by the gray clouds…but, just knowing they are behind the clouds brings me joy. Grateful for them…and grateful for the time I am gifted with in each and every new day! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you Carolyn … I was lucky enough to capture the lovely photos on our walkies at sunset and moonrise, which happened to be the the same time, and hence my reflective poem was created … “The Sound of Time” ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒ“๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ˜
