Worlds Beyond Thoughts



Laws are merely guide lines

For the arrows of love to climb

Mirror mirror on the wall 

Recalls our joys and falls 

Behind every mask there is a weathered face 

Behind every face old lines survive in place 

Behind every place memories live with grace 

Evil eyes lurk in veiled skies


The wisdom of native ancestors should be listened to

And not be lost to the modern ways this arrogant world

The way of modern progress

Is to leave nature shamefully undressed

Nature and renewal walk down the garden path hand in hand

I hear church bells ring 

I see the mouses die 

And the clouds always cry

Keep the cup full, turn the power on

And the answer will come   


Like a big jigsaw puzzle

Not all the pieces will fit back

And overall the world will look the same

I cannot dwell on what has been 

While I feel my blade of grass is alive and green

Above and beyond the crusty dirt 

The universe is a symphonic concert

They say that the truth hurts

Beware of cold desserts

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  4. I love the lines you quoted to me in the context of the poem Ivor.. I was listening to an aboriginal man today about the words they use for land which is a being to them and the word concerned a kind of inner intelligence which meant something more akin to Universe. I wish we were more like this, more in tune with earth as seemlessly interwoven with our being.. to sidestep the ancestral intelligence does seem a great arrogance.

Thanks Carolyn … I am so pleased that I formed my habit of ‘filing’ my comments … they give me lots of joy to re-read them, and then sometimes create one of these intriguing poems, … that somehow seem to flow together … Frankie is really settling into his new home … and now barks at the front door when someone is in the front yard … woof, woof !! 🐶..🤗💛

      2. Sorry I’ve not read your article, nor any other posts either today … between my morning exercise group, .. a plumbing job .. getting my eyes tested … and a necessary supermarket visit .. I am almost exhausted tonight, … and even struggling to do my own post … age is definitely catching up with me … I just cannot do what I used to do !!!

      3. I too am on a catch-up. After announcing to everyone how my health had improved I had a little downturn (again!). So this week I’ve just concentrated on getting the post for today written. Normally I write in advance, but not this one! 🙂
