A special poem I wrote, after I’d taken my Lady to hospital for the last time, on the day of her 65th birthday, eleven years ago. Hello Carole, and I wonder if you still wonder that I wonder, about wandering on your celestial star…….
Under The Snow.
We emanate to a birthday.
We deflate to a final day.
Birthdays, they all come, they all go.
Birthdays, in the sunshine, under the snow.
Birthdays, slow to mature, quickly an aeon.
Birthdays, before we are born, after we are gone.
Birthdays, hanging on by a breath.
Birthdays, nailed to a cross ’til death.
What’s it all mean to be alive and cry.
What’s it all mean to live and to die.

What a powerful, poignant post, Ivor.
Carole’s beautiful smile in photo! Your amazing heartfelt poem! That song/Mr. Cohen’s words! All of these bring me to tears.
The death of your beautiful Carole, your loss, your missing of her, your pain, etc…all weighs so heavy on my heart. 💜💜💜
As Mr. Cohen said…”From this broken hill All your praises they shall ring If it be your will To let me sing If it be your will If there is a choice Let the rivers fill Let the hills rejoice…” 🙂
Every time I hear that song I can relate to the broken hill…I think about the need to try to relinquish my pain, weakness, brokenness…and cling on to mercy, hope, joy.
It is so challenging to have to accept the death of someone we love. I’ve sat next to the bedside of too many loved ones and watched helplessly as an illness filled them and then took them away. I am always left with questions, loss, pain, yearnings…AND the urge that they would want me to carry on/to live with joy and love. I try every day to live my life to honor each of them. ❤️
(((HUGS))) ❤️🙏
PS…sorry for my l-o-n-g comments. Your poems and the songs you share always activate my brain and touch my heart.

Ivor, as Carolyn says, it is so challenging to have to accept the death of someone we love.
For me ir seems to be more and more challenging, having to accept the death of Peter, my partner for more than 64 years. He died nearly 29 months ago!
Are these Cohen’s words, “Oh, end this night, if it be your will . . .” ?

The special occasions of birthdays and, anniversaries, are often, very difficult, when we just lost that someone you loved, but, as the years go by, we learn to, move on, knowing that, moving on doesn’t mean we forgot those whom we loved and lost, itt just, that with time, we grieve over them, a little, less…
