A Blanket of Golden Sun

Today’s poem might be the 2nd poem I recite at Geelong’s Lowercase Poetry Open Mic event tonight … or maybe the piece will be too sentimental for me to read …

A Blanket of Golden Sun

I’m flying above silver linings

Gliding on layers of white velvet

Travelling toward a golden horizon

Looking for her celestial star

Bright as today’s golden sun

That warm blanket of radiance

Lovingly crafted by her gentle hands

Held together by golden strings

From a softly humming violin

That played our song, β€œOnce Upon a Time”

Reciting the golden hours of our love story

β€œOnce Upon a Time”: our favourite version, sung by Bobby Darin

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

I hope you were able to share it at open mic, Ivor. I know if you did it would touch every heart there!

PS…Mr. Darin does such a wonderful job with that amazing and touching song! When I was a little girl, one of my older sisters introduced me to his music, and movies, and I’m still listening to him all these decades later. ‘Twas so sad he died so young.

  2. An exquisitely beautiful poem, Ivor! Bobby Darin’s song is the perfect companion to it. A touching tribute to Carole. So lovely! ❀ ❀ ❀

I relived the emotions I felt at my late husband's memorial service twenty years ago…soaring joy for his extraordinary life and crushing sorrow at losing him.
