The Flame Flickers


 
 
Sunday afternoon  

And I am in bed  

Resting and daydreaming  

Again, tiredness is my companion  


Outside, I hear the wind  

Rushing through the sky  

Inside, I hear ambient music  

Soothing the throb behind my eyes  


I have been handed a bike  

To pedal up the hill 

When seated on the saddle  

My feet are yet 

To touch the ground


  

I have been assigned   

A pure-bred horse to ride  

When seated on the saddle 

My feet are yet

To reach the stirrups  


I have been given  

A different path to follow  

When the dust finally settles  

The restored footprints 

Will belong to me

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you kindly Cindy… it’s all part of the diabetes … I am yet to see the diabetes nurse .. my appointment is next, but I have started taking tablets and hopefully they should kick-in soon 😊🌏😍🐶

      1. Yes, it has to be. Such a shock.
        I understand why you feel this way. Take the time you need to adjust, adapt, move forward. 🙂

  13. I remember how difficult we found it when trying to change my husband’s diet, it’s not easy for the patient.

    He found it difficult to cut his sugar intake. He liked his beer and sweet stuff, but it was the hidden sugar in foods that often caught us out. Eventually, we got a handle on his diet and coupled with the tablets he began to feel less tired.

    Rest up, Ivor and you’ll begin to feel better very soon. 🙂
