To Find a Higher Gear
Disabled and discarded
Demoted to the outback paddock
My dimpled shell is flaky and sun-burnt
and masks a cracked and dormant engine block
Vanquished wheels are deflated and threadbare
and my rusty axles are twisted and brittle
Hardly strong enough
to carry my dilapidated body
The new year is nearly here
Am I worth restoring?
Am I able to find a higher gear?

“The moment we stop moving, we rust” – Dr. Jan Pol

your analogy to the aging body is such a classic poem here Ivor. Though the shell may be worn, the mind is as sharp as a sword! We can’t delay the process but hopefully the journey to the outback paddock will be one filled with joy and laughter. Welcome to 2025 and wishing you a lovely year ahead my friend.

Happy New Year Gina … a few “rusty” photos from my walks up in Miners Rest … jolted the analogy, and I enjoyed creating the poem for the new 🎆 😊🎶😍

I love how the old items are given new life and your poem reflects that artistic value too.

Going rusty is all part of the aging process … Lol, rust to dust
adjust as we must
before the final upthrust …

adjust as we must
rust to dust
before the final upthrust …

There is, always something that’s, precious in, everything we find in life, it all depends on, if we feel it’s, worth our time, or not.

Yes, you are!
Yes, you will be able to do so!
In your fabulous photos, I see beauty!
I think rust is symbolic of character and wisdom…life lived and so much more. 🙂

Yes indeed Carolyn … there’s something charming about being rusty and old, like an ageless swinging garden gate … 🤎🐶🌏😍🎵

The ageing process is inevitable. Stated by a famous county singer, who died of cancer at age 62, you can’t let it define you. 💗
