Malcolm, looking sad and slowly fading away. This morning’s replacement mouse
Malcolm the Mouse
Some sad news
Late last night
My mouse died
He’s not been well
This past month
His right side was fading away
And then his left side started failing too
“His lights were on
but nobody was home”
I rang my younger brother
“What should I do, mate?”
He said, “How old was he?”
“I think he was 13 years old”
“Oh well, his time was due,
you’ll have to put him down
and throw him in the bin”
“Ok, it’s been difficult
trying to use my computer
without Malcolm”
Luckily, this morning
After rummaging through the shed
I found another mouse
An old USB plug-in one

I will forever wonder who decided to call that thing a mouse. Lovely verse, Ivor.

I’ve heard of machines getting nicknames from users, but a computer mouse, that’s a first.

RIP Malcolm. He served you well, dear Ivor. Do you have a name for new mousey? How about Minnie? ššš©¶

Mouses are like our doggies, we always out live them ⦠this one is not new and old fashioned, so a name like, Maverick or Matthew might be suitable šš„°

My vote goes to Maverick! š

Methinks Malcolm had a nice long life. Retirement is not a bad option at this point!
So what’s the old plug-in called? And how come he is still around? š

Heās a bit old fashioned, so maybe, Mario, Marcus, or MatEo š¤šš

It’s, always never easy, to, say goodbye to these, old things we’ve used for a very, long, time, we became attached to how they feel, how they work, and, become, unable to, adjust to the, new, more updated version of things…but everything we love, all gets, taken from us, eventually.

My new/old mouse (Mario) is a ‘rescue mouse’ and I’m sure he’ll appreciate being back on the job … šš

Aw, poor Malcolm! Rest in peace, faithful friend. š± ā¤ļø
Malcolm served you well, Ivor. Now when I read one of your older poems, I will think of Malcolm’s contribution. I’m so glad you have a photo of him. š
Does your new-old mouse have a name yet?
I love to name inanimate objects. š And I often assign human characteristics, feelings, attitudes, etc., to them. Yes, I know I’m weird. But it’s fun! š

Lol … yes, ‘we’ are weird … because my new-old mouse is an old fashioned one, I’m going to name him, “Mario” … He’s a “rescue” mouse, out of dusty box in my shed, and I’m sure he’ll appreciate being back “on the job” ššš

Mario! YAY! š
How lovely of you to “rescue” him! š
OH, I know he WILL appreciate being back on the job! š

Poor old Mouse. I love the poem. I’ve had younger ones pack in before now. RIP Malcolm you’ve done your job well. Always good to have a spare even it is wired. My next stop is usually Amazon for an overnight delivery. š
